How do I optimize my images for uploading onto my website?

When uploading images to your website, you want the right balance of quality and size - you want clear, sharp images, but don't want them to take forever to load.

Image Optimization

STEP 1: Name your image file something descriptive.

STEP 2: Crop and/or proportion your image. I use Adobe Photoshop CC (part of the Creative Cloud Photography Plan) and PhotoBulk (available for Mac or Windows).

STEP 3: Resize so that the longest side is no more than 1000-1200px. You may not even need your images to be this big. Just be sure your image isn't enormous, like 3000-5000px on the longest side.

STEP 4: Optimize with TinyPNG/TinyJPG.

  1. Drag and drop your image(s) into the window.
  2. Watch the magic happen.
  3. Download the tinified images and save them to a new folder.

STEP 5: Upload the tinified images to your site.

NOTE: Erica can set up this process to automatically occur when uploading images to your Media library. Create a new support ticket to get started.
